Our Story

Threadgill’s Memorial Services has been serving the Beaverton area and Portland Metro community for many years. We’re thankful to be an important part of this community and will continue our longstanding legacy of helping families honor their loved ones.

Ron and Deborah re-met at a funeral for a mutual friend in California 32 years ago and were married a few months later. They moved to Portland in 1989 and started their family. Their daughter, Kiera, was born in 1990, and their son, Kade, was adopted at birth in 1994. Ron was told in high school that he had an aptitude to become a funeral director but it was not appealing to him at the time.

In 1999, Ron was introduced to the funeral industry as a co-owner and apprenticed to be a funeral director. The business was very successful but after five years Ron and Deborah decided to pursue other interests and left the industry.

At the end of 2006, enough people encouraged them to return to the funeral industry as they did things so differently from the other funeral homes. After much thought and prayer, they opened Threadgill’s Memorial Services in March of 2007, and Deborah also became a funeral director. Their desire was to raise the bar on how families were served. They do the transports themselves rather than using a transportation company, they answer the phones 24 hours instead of having an answering service, and they meet with families in the comfort of their homes. Families experience a continuity of care.

Today they are trendsetters in the funeral industry. They offer Aqua Cremation in addition to flame (traditional) cremation; they educate the public on natural or green burials; Deborah has received training as a death midwife in order to provide Family-Directed Home Funerals; she was also recently trained as an End of Life Doula and collaborates with Evening Star Doula Services in Portland; and they offer families the option of having a Living Funeral or Celebration of Life prior to death.

Ron has been an insurance agent for over 20 years and has background in estate planning which complements his vast experience as a funeral director. He has consulted with Elder Law attorneys, Estate Planners, CPAs, Guardians and Conservators. He has a B.A. in business and communications from Concordia University in Portland.

Deborah has a B.A. in sociology from Rider University in New Jersey, and has had a varied career. She was a hospice billing specialist, a probation officer, a counselor in a group home, retail store manager of Dilettante Chocolates, a teacher in a private school and worked with homeowners in preparing their homes for sale. Her most important role has been a mother.
